'Nosferatu' Achieves New Global Box Office Record Despite Digital Release Debut.

Despite the fact that Wolf Man and Presence, the two new horror releases of 2025, have not performed well at the box office, the ongoing success of Nosferatu continues steadily. The film recently premiered on PVOD platforms, yet this hasn't affected its impressive box office performance. Nosferatu has been in theaters worldwide for over a month and has just one more milestone to achieve before it can conclude its run. It's already one of the top-grossing horror movies of last year and is the highest-grossing film of director Robert Eggers' career.

With $93 million from domestic theaters and an additional $73 million from international markets, the film's total global earnings now reach an impressive $166 million. A remake of F.W. Murnau's German Expressionist classic from over a century ago, Nosferatu was made with a reported budget of $50 million. It still has a chance to surpass the $100 million mark domestically, but it is evidently losing momentum. Nevertheless, it ranks as the third-biggest horror film of 2024, surpassing Longlegs and Terrifier 3; the film is only behind Alien: Rumulus and A Quiet Place: Day One on the domestic charts.

Nosferatu has continued the trend of art-house horror films outperforming studio productions, a trend that seems to have continued this year. Wolf Man, directed by Leigh Whannell, has barely crossed the $15 million mark, while Steven Soderbergh's Presence managed to earn only about $3 million in its opening weekend. Nosferatu has also advanced Eggers' career; he spent nearly a decade working on films ranging from modest successes to an outright failure. He has two new projects already planned, a sequel to Labyrinth and a period horror film titled Werwulf.

Nosferatu received excellent reviews and has maintained a "fresh" 85% rating on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. In his review, Collider's Jeff Ewing described it as "the best horror film of the year and easily one of 2024's best overall." Recently, Nosferatu earned four nominations at the 97th Academy Awards, in the categories of Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Production Design. You can view the film in theaters and at home, and keep an eye on Collider for further updates.
